Exciting New Diet from Medi-Cal for Older Cats:

Feline Mobility Support is a new diet available from Medi-cal that addresses the needs of arthritic kitties. Mobility Support incorporates Green lipped muscle powder, chondroitin, glucosamine and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Green Lipped Muscles contain a number of ingredients that are proven to reduce joint pain and swelling. Chondroitin helps keep cartilage elastic and inhibits the effects of enzymes that cause permanent destruction of cartilage. Glucosamine is involved with the formation of new cartilage. Healthy cartilage acts as a "shock absorber"/cushion for your bones. Bone rubbing on bone is very painful. Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids are good at decreasing inflammation which leads to less painful joints. Omega fatty acids also promote healthy skin and a luxurious coat. Mobility support is available in 1.5 kg and 4 kg bags.

Is your cat arthritic? 90% of cats over 12 years of age have some osteoarthritis. (See inset/below) Most commonly the hips, knees and elbows are affected. Limping and changes in gait are common signs seen in dogs with arthritis but signs in cats can be subtle and include:

  • Reduced mobility: reluctance to stretch, do stairs and jump
  • Less interaction with people and other pets: isolation, grouchiness, sudden aggression, resents being held/picked up.
  • Deterioration of coat quality: uncomfortable to groom
  • Changes in bathroom habits: Constipation, inappropriate urination
  • Pain: limping, change in gait, over grooming, vocalization, changes in posture, "Sudden Aging"

Arthritis can happen at any age. If you are concerned please call us to have your cat assessed.

What is arthritis? Arthritis is a chronic, progressive, painful condition affecting joints. Osteoarthritis is the most common form affecting people and pets and is caused by trauma, infection or poor joint construction. It is not reversible and becomes worse over time.

Dental Focus

For the next few months we are going to help our clients out with those pesky dental problems. We are offering you and your pet a FREE dental appointment with our technicians. During this time you can discuss any dental issues you have been having (bad breath being the most common complaint). The technician will carefully inspect your pet's teeth and can assess what course of action should be taken from there. We can better assess for an estimate if a dental cleaning and/or extractions are needed. If you and your pet are willing to give teeth brushing a try we can go over how to start this. Also, we can assess if a dental chew or treat may suitable to help get and keep your pet's teeth pearly white. Everyone will get a dental package with tips, samples and even a treat for your pet to try. Please call the clinic today to set up your appointment. There is no purchase necessary and you will not be pressured to buy anything.

As a bonus we are also giving away a bag of Medi-cal Dental Formula food to any pet having a dental cleaning done absolutely FREE!

Dental Formula has a unique kibble design and formulation which has been clinically proven to reduce the accumulation of plaque and tartar that can lead to gum disease and eventual tooth loss.
